Rep Power: 0 | | | Getting Rid of Back Fat Hey all! I've been on a great weight loss kick without cheating for almost three weeks now and I'm feeling great! The only problem is that I gained quite a bit of weight before I decided I needed to get healthy (isn't that always the way?) and there are some problem spots on my body that were never there before.
I now have small rolls on my back that I cannot for the life of me get rid of. I know, I know, three weeks isn't a long time to have been trying, but they're really the part of me that I hate the most. I can live with a gut, but the back rolls have to go. Here's where you loverly people come in
Can anyone think of some exercises I can work into my workout that focus on the lats? I think this would help shrink the rolls a lot. Any other advice would be great as well, but that's what I'm looking for here mostly. I already do lat pulldowns and rows every other day, but any freeweight suggestions or anything would be very much appreciated.
Right now I'm 206 on a 5'9 frame. I don't look terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but these rolls... right... I'm getting redundant. Thanks in advance guys |

Most can't live with a gut and rarely comment about back fat. Congrats for being unique!! Quote: |

| Pullups and Pulldowns are king for lats. However, any horizontal rowing motion is also going to include your lats. Quote: |

| It won't.
You can't spot reduce fat. You can't target specific areas of your body with isolated exercises with the hope of ridding the fat that is located there. Physiology doesn't work like this.
Lifting weights either builds or maintains muscle. It does little with fat. Actually, nothing directly. Indirectly it lifting weights burns calories which ultimately plays a role in the utilization of body fat, assuming you are in a caloric deficit. Quote:

1. How do you expect pulldowns to directly influence the distribution of her back fat?
2. This is a hijack, and for this, I apologize..... but I see that you did 1000 crunches and are shooting for 5000. What is the time frame for this? And why? |

Rep Power: 0 | | Doesn't building muscle change the way the fat lies on the body? I used to be a swimmer, and I was heavy for a swimmer, but I never had these back rolls, no matter what my weight was. *shrugs*
I usually use the elliptical trainer for my cardio, since it's easier on my joints than the treadmill, and works different parts of my body from the stationary bike. I'm a big fan :P
As for my photo, it was taken two summers ago. I was 15lbs lighter at the time... It'd be nice to get back to there for sure |

Plus, you are not going to build any appreciable amounts of muscle for 2 reasons:
1. You are female
2. You are dieting (at least I suspect you are since you are trying to lose fat)
When you were a swimmer, you may have been heavy, but that doesn't say anything about the amount of fat on your body. |

Rep Power: 182 | | Pink is right. Remain consistent and the back fat will vanish. You see, we lose fat in a predetermined, genetic order. It doesn't come off in even amounts from the body, all at once.
And it's only been 3 weeks.
Some here have been at this for years.

Rep Power: 0 | | Yeah, I've noticed that. I have friends who lose from their tummy first, but I can always tell if I'm losing, even if I haven't weighed myself, because it comes off my face first, and then rolls down my body.
Thanks for the advice/support guys |

Rep Power: 0 | | Whoo boy, I know *exactly* what you mean about back fat and I sympathize... one of the main ways I knew I was getting overweight was when I started to notice the little dents and divets from the back rolls... that and I. started to get thigh burn when I wore skirts! Ugh!
I agree, I can live with a little pooch belly because at least that's smooth, but rolls really wake you up and make you want to get in shape! Good luck and sending you good vibes! | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
