I tried the HIIT this evening after hitting the weights. I made it through three cycles before almost passing out. It probably took less than five minutes, I was judging by distance.

I remember during my wrestling days (13 years ago) that this type of work out is really effective.

I can't wait to try it again..

I would also like to argue the point made that cardio is not very effective for weight loss. I don't know about others but it sure helped me drop 20 lbs fast (along with eating every 2.5-3 hours and cutting out junk food).

Anyone know if Jillian's 30 day shred is considered HIIT?

Thank you for this post. Aerobics is one of my all time favorite ways of losing weight. After having kids this is what I did as far as getting back in shape as I was in the army and needed to be back in shape for work so definately yes to aerobics I actuallylike step aerobics the best.

Thanks for the info...I've been loosing gaining & loosing weight for years. Whilst there is a lot of truth to what you say about HIIT...I think the comment about steady cardio being no good for weight loss shows just how people can get to hung up on the one thing. Thankyou to the person for pointing out that people should have a good grounding on rest & recovery before flogging the body like so. I do like HIIT, but feel for those just starting out like myself (yet again) that the walk/jog walk /jog is extreamly effective, which only gives credence to the concept of HITT, yet as many of us progress to a steady beat, you can be assured weight loss still plays it's part. I also agree that zoning can and is all to often used an exscuse to burn fat without any real effort, but I've come across to many profesional body builders that swear by low intensity workouts to lose Fat...Therefore whilst I take onboard the importance of HIIT, I think it is more effective used along side other forms of working out. It's really great to help people get to the next lvl...that's for sure...but then again, somthing I tend to overtrain myself with. Guess it all comes down to experiance...being a yo yo myself...I best be going with the steady method for now ...Thanks again...Good Read.

I gotta say this running program called Couch 2 5k is the most hard excerise I can barely do it. It is a real work out...the good news is I've completed week 1. I was never a good runner, even as a child when I was thin. Now I have alot of upper body strength and am more muscular when I was younger, which I don't know why.

I'm on week 2 of couch 2 5k. it involves a brisk walking warm up 5 minutes, followed by 6 intervals of 90 seconds jogging, 2 minute rest period between each interval.

It is HARD, and I can't see how anyone can run for 5 minutes straight, let alone a mile.

I'm taking it slow though, I can do this. I started at 241 lbs and now I'm 219...in a little over a month and a half.

Great post! This cannot be more true. People seem to think that if they just walk they are doing their best at shedding those pounds and you are right this is not the case. Walking is a great exercise but only has minimal results. I have noticed that high intesnity interval sprints have worked the best for me. These can be done in many different ways but I have noticed that if you sprint 100m 5x times three time a week with a 400m warm up and cool down are the best results. When you sprint take the same amount of rest time between the sprints and in time start reducing that rest time and you will notice great resutls.

I think some of you are looking at things incorrectly. Walking, or running, or HIIT is not the be all end all factor of if you are going to lose weight, ultimately your diet will be. Someone who eats fast food three times a day and does HIIT will still at best maintain his weight and in most cases gain weight, not to mention the fact that HIIT is just too demanding for most out of shape or overweight people to perform with any constant regularity. You would suggest an overweight person sprint 5x a week when walking at a brisk pace makes them sweat and gasp, really? Be real here, some of you are only setting others up for failure. Walking CAN be very effective for weight loss, alongside a proper diet. It is probably one of the best ways for beginners and non-athletic types also, as it can be done everyday and almost no recovery time is needed.

Hi,

Yes, it is really helpful and I must say that aerobics are simply great for keeping our body fit and fine, also any one can join these classes as it relaxes our muscles and keep you strong.

Thanks
