Well i was always told it was where your waist was when you looked in the mirror, thats where you measured(where your waist goes in )i awayls measure where i wear my pants. mines right at belly button hight!
I don't think there is an exact, some people are high waisted (like me) and some people are low-waisted. Your waist is just the smallest part of your torso. For me it's around the very bottom part of my ribs (where the ribs only come to your side or back rather than all the way to the front).
Well..im confused cuz when the people from Curves measured me they measured at my thickest point of my waist..just above my belly button....Yeah..not the same as your pants at all..thank goodness :-D not unless you are 90 and wear your pants up there :-D

Yeah sometimes they measure the abdomen and waist, i think they do it to estimate your bf....dunno the weight loss clinic i went to once did that(but they were full of s***!!anyways thats a whole other story )
heres a pic on taking measurments might help???number 4 is where your waist measurement should be taken.

thanks all, im embarassed to say i think i have been measuring in wrong place all this time lol. i was wondering why my waist seemd so huge at 34 (just below belly button) but at an inch above belly button its 31. does that sound about right for size 9/10?
no something is not right? i found this chart on the net..according to this i should be wearing a 14. but 12's and 14's are too big! LOL im still looking for size charts.
Well, one of my measurement it not one that chart. Of course I am using a piece of string and a measuring tape. Not a fabric measuring tape. Would this make a diff?
Boy my measurements seem silly.
I always buy an 18 wide petitie pants, that chart says I should buy sz 20 or bigger.
and shirts I buy 18-20, this tells me to buy 16, although I bought 4 shirts sz 17 junior, those are my favs.
I just have HUGE hips and thighs, teeny waist and ave. top. feel like a weeble wobble!

that size chart is crap!!lol telling me im a bigger no way in hell
size charts differ from company to company, i think what matters most is that you try on the clothing and they fit nice, not so much the actuall size on the tag.
example-my silver jeans sz28/29-levis id be a 30/31
Christina..i dont think it would make a diffrence an inch is an inch weather its a fabric measuring tape or not
smiley u have silver jeans? where did u get them? i seem to have this sudden new interest in clothes lol. oh and sometimes it helps to have somebody else measure you. my best friend was over today so i told her to measure me so i could compare and when she did it, it was 30.5 lol i think i like that one the best! but my hips are still HUGE at 39, any suggestions? hmm unless im measuring them wrong too LMAO
