Rep Power: 0 | | Flat stomach diet I have been on a diet for about 2 months now, Im 21(nearly), male and just under 6 foot!
I was 13 stone and im now just about 11 stone which i think is about ideal for my age, sex and height.
My problem is, as ive posted on previous thread, i seem to lose weight everywhere except the place i want to lose it, my stomach!!!
My face looks pretty thin now, as do my arms and legs, however, even though im an ideal weight, ive still got quite a few rolls of FAT on my stomach that im not happy about!!!
How can i get rid of these?!?!?! I know you cant lose fat from a particular spot, but it seems ridiculous to me that it appears i would have to be about 8 stone before i cud achieve that flat stomach i want! (my arms and face wud probably have disapeaered by then)!!!
I mean, would sit ups and exercise of abdominal area help at all? i havent been doing that as I thought that wud make my stomach look worse, seen as I would just build muscle under my fat which would push the fat out further!!!
or is it just the case through genetics or something that some people just cant get that flat stomach and will always have fat on there stomach?
Your comments and suggestions would be greatly apprecaited
thanks a lot! |

You pretty much answered your own question. You said that "...I know you cant lose fat from a particular spot, but it seems ridiculous to me..." Well, you're exactly right, you cannot "spot" reduce fat. The way fat is "burned" off your body is from the extremities to your center of gravity (typically the stomach for males and hips/thighs for females).
You also mention genetics. Yes genetics do play a role in every thing from the amount of fat cells you have to how fast your metabolism works. These are variables. There are a few constants. For instance, it takes 3500 calories to equal one pound of fat (since you mention stones, I'm going to assume you'll make the conversions). Therefore, in order to maximize your fat loss and obtain that “flat stomach” you desire, you will need to figure out how to burn 3500 calories over what you take in for each pound of fat you want to loose.
Some suggestions:
Do you have a food log of what you eat? Do you know how many calories you eat at every meal?
How much cardio do you do? Try upping it to an hour per day, first thing in the morning, before you eat in order to maximize calories burned.
How is your attitude toward exercise and diet? Are you serious about this or are you just going through the motions (it is important to be honest with yourself).
Good luck.

Rep Power: 0 | | i think u missed the point of my post!
I can lose weight fine, ive lost nearly 2 stone in 2 months which is good, so thats not the problem, the problem is that the rest of me is just going to look ridiculously thin by the time i lose the fat on my stomach and il probably be underweight
so i was just wondering do situps help and stuff, will it "tighten up" that fat to make it look more defined, or will it just push out dat FAT further making me look....fatter.... |

Rep Power: 0 | | Yes, "core" exercises will build and tone muscle in your mid-section and it will tighten up your stomach. Answering the question about if "...will it just push out dat FAT further making me look....fatter...." Hard to say - if you have a lot of fat there, it is possible, if you use weights and build muscle in your abdominal area. If you do not use weights and simply tone the area, then it shouldn't push your fat out farther. However, your genetics play a key role in this whole discussion.
If I were you, I would keep trying to loose weight, to get the fat around the mid-section completely gone, then work at building your body up through weight lifting. That way you'll get your flat abs and build a body to be proud of. You're young, so you'll be able to build muscle pretty fast, assuming you follow a proper diet.
Good luck! |

Rep Power: 0 | | build up your chest and shoulders. this will give you some 'cover' while you keep losing weight and wait for that pesky ab fat to disappear.
the bigger your chest and shoulders the easier it is to hide your gut at least when wearing a shirt. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
