knee pain

i've been suffering from occasional knee pain for the past 5 years. a doctor in the army told me that this was common in soldiers because of the heavy loads they carry, and was exarcebated by the fact that i was overweight. i never got an official diagnosis from him so i don't know the exact condition.

most of the time, when the pain hits, it's when i'm jogging, but there's also the odd case where i've been sitting at a desk for a few hours, then when i get up i get such an intense pain that i can't even walk.

has anybody had a similar condition or know of any ways to deal with this?

I am not sure how you can deal with this, I guess the best is to go to doctors. I personally get pain on the upper bones where my legs start from and is happens when I go jogging too much. Both legs hurt to the extend that I can't walk for long time.

So what I did is discovered the wonderful world of swimming - that way no bones and joints hurt and you exersice your whole body. It was working for me because I was doing something different that my body was not used to. If you go sauna afterwards you can lose even more weight with less effort.

I don't know if you can swim but I would recommend swimming to anybody who wants to loose weight.

All the best!

First, the above posters are correct.... this is no place to receive diagnosis. Get your arse into a doc.

Anymore, I almost always go to an ART certified chiro anytime I have an injury or pain such as this. If they can't treat the issue, I then go to a chiro.

Also, instead of jogging, you can move to a low/no impact form of cardio.

yeah gotta get myself to a doctor i guess. it's just that the pain happens infrequently enough that i think it's gone, then like a few months later it starts back up.

what other forms of low impact cardio are there other than swimming?

you can also try some stretching and exercises to strengthen the area the pain is in.

Inflexibility could certainly be an issue. Soft tissue damage could be an issue. There's really no saying. Get to the doc.

I have a similiar issue

I broke my ankle almost 3 years ago. It has healed as best it is going to, but after vigorous exercise, excessive standing etc, it does begin to bother me. I was curious if one of those ankle support ace bandage type thing's might help?
