I'm going to the gym for the first time ever

I got my gym membership to 24 hour fitness but now I'm scared because I've never been to a gym before. Is there anything else besides workout clothes and workout towel I need to bring?

I felt scared when I first purchased my membership..several months ago.
Everything will be just fine. The gym I go to supplys the washcloths and towels..however I rather use mine. I bought a lock for my locker...I keep an extra set of workout clothes in it as well as an extra pair of tennies.
I also keep deodorant..soap and shampoo.

Water, always make sure you have water.

You will feel great after your workout.
I use to hate exercise..now I hate if I have to miss it.

Good Luck in your journey....Angie

The only things I take to the gym are water, workout log, and mp3 player.

Along with patience and a good attitude.......that's pretty much it.

Also, depending on your training goals and your budget - sometimes ( if you can find a good one ) - a few sessions with a trainer is good investment to get you off on the right foot to help you learn how to do exercises with good form and how to train safely. Just some food for thought.

However, a trainer is a ' nice to have ' certainly not a ' have to have '....just showing up at the gym on a regular basis is half the battle IMO.

Best of luck !

Like it was said, take your mp3 with your favorite music to avoid getting bored. Honestly I get bored very easily on the gym, music saves the day

Be Careful

Congratulations on joining a gym. Just be careful. Dont lift too heavy, Listen to your body You are just starting out. If you can afford it hire a trainer for a few sessions to help you get used to the machinery and they will help you adjust the seat height and seat backs for your body. If something doesnt feel right it is probably wrong body positioning. Dont hesitate to ask questions. Most gyms will have floor people that can help you out but only you can feel what your body is feeling. The gym can be a fantastic place. Have fun with it.

Thanks fit-chick. I actually have decided to hire a trainer at least for a few sessions just to show me proper form.
