there's no reason why you can't go outside and run... and just keep walking on the treadmill at a speed that you're comfortable - or rather - just outside your comfort zone.. make yourself work | Wow, that's pretty fast for me. Kudos Maleficent! |

After 3 months I've worked up too 2.7mph at 4% incline. 3mph has me jogging, and I can't do that longer than 1 minute.
and here I thought I was doing pretty good.... maybe I'm not holding my mouth right... |

Rep Power: 0 | | | running or walking (or how about walking with an incline?) I don't like running either! It just doesn't feel good on my body. But to increase the intensity or just add variety, I increase the incline. Feel free to do it slowly and also, feel free to only do it in one or two minute intervals (then go back to a flat treadmill).
But one thing is true--you do need to regularly change your workouts to experience changes in your body. Besides that, by changing your exercise routine regularly, it reduces the chance of exercise burn out or muscular over-use injuries. |

Don't get discouraged, I couldn't do that either...and if you could have seen me when I first learned to jog...omg....I wasn't able to get 5 houses away before I was out of breath, and when I pushed myself my breathing was so labored my running mate kept asking if I was ok....lol
It takes time to build up endurance and learn how to breathe properly. In time you will go further and faster, just hang in there, it takes a while but you can do it
take care,

I have on occasion broken out into a run when I go walking most everyday, about 3.5 mph, for an hour. I will give myself a marker and say " I am going to run to that stop sign", and then just rotate walking/ running. It felt good to have that boost every so often breaking up the heart rate. When I see runners it just looks so freeing. I am going to try and do that more. |

Rep Power: 0 | | lilacdawn - I used to hate running last year, but one day I just decided that I was gonna try to run on the treadmill. And then from that day on, I really liked it. If you get past the initial shock of getting into a running groove, then it becomes easier and easier. Sadly I didn't stick to the running thing after getting injured.
I try to run between 4.5mph - 5.0mph for about 20-25 minutes. I feel great after that. Although I can't imagine how marathon runners can run for hours! | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
