I finally have the $200 to afford a pass to the local complex to swim every day for three months. But the question is, should I do it? I'm not quite sure because everybody keeps saying you should switch up your exercise every four weeks or so, and if I'm going to spend $200 for three months, I'm going to go atleast three times a week for those those three months. Should I do it anyways?
Also, What if you can't swim very well, but you can struggle enough to get from one end of the pool (the long way) to the other. Is struggle swimming still effective enough to be worth the $200?
I go lap swimming sometimes, and it takes me forever to get back and forth across the pool. But it is definitely a good workout. I can't do it every day but it's a fun variation to my usual workouts.
Love to swim but hate the chlorine smell afterwards. Up to you but can you find a better deal else where? Or some folks might say, "Health is priceless"
I use swimming as part of an overall program, ususally getting 1 to 2 swims in a week. I think it's a great exercise that can help improve your lung capacity and give you a complete body, low impact workout.
If you're not comfortable, or struggle, try using a kickboard for assistance. Also, go to YouTube and search for things like "freestyle swim form" or something like that. There are good videos over there that can show you good form. I used YouTube to perfect the breast stroke and it's been a huge help (taking a Navy SEAL Fitness Challenge where all you can swim is the breast stroke, otherwise I'd be doing freestyle)
the breast stroke is a great stroke for open water -the out of water recovery time is a lot easier on the body than freestyle is...
If you know how to swim already - and it sounds like you do... then you'll only get stronger.. you're not competing against anyone but yourself... and you'll have a starting point.
THere are other things you can do in the water as well besides swimming - even water walking or jogging will give you a good working -- that's where you're walking across the pool...
