Calories burnt when running

I have been lurking for a few weeks, and finally have a question.

I have lost 9kg (20lb) since 01 Jan (so 3 months) and have been steadily increasing the amount of exercise I do.
I now weigh 72kg (159lb) , height 171cm (5" 7)

I do shorter runs regularly, and once a week do a long run where I want to know how many calories I am burning.

I run for 100 minutes, a distance of 18km (11 miles) so I figure this is 1100 calories approx. Can anyone give me a more scientific answer?

Thanks,
WideBoy

Google "calories burned calculators" but you are not going to get an absolute number - every body is going to be different...

What does it matter how many calories you're burning? Concentrate instead on the consistent exercise - something you can do forever... and work on nutrition..

Thanks for the answer.
To your point, it matters to me as to achieve a long-term consistently healthy life, I think it is wise to have a good idea of calorie intake and output now - and to then be sure to get the right balance between healthy eating and regular exercise.

Nothing is going to be completely accurate, but for a general idea, you can invest in a heart rate monitor. They will track your heart rate, give you the lowest, the highest, and the average heartbeat for the workout, and the amount of calories burned. But it is just a rough estimate, I imagine they're off by at least 200 cals either way.
