Anyone tried the P90x videos and not been slim when starting out?
They look a little pricey to me, but I'm good at sticking with videos and routines once I start (and my head is in it.)
I've got flab, and not just a little bit here and there, some hanging belly stuff (c-section.) And wondering if this would be ok for someone who is in between as far as fitness levels go.
And, if you have tried it, did you stick to it? Results?
actually SaturdaySaint (an amazing fellow here at WLF) has been doing P90x for a month plus. His diary is very consistent and you can read the various types of workouts that are in the program. Personally speaking, I was working out 5 months prior to starting Power90 (the baby brother of P90x) and let me just say this.... it was very challenging even after I thought I was in pretty good shape. You may want to check out Power90 first and see if that's something you might want to try out before purchasing P90x (the advanced version of P90). You alternate cardio (sweat) and resistance (sculpt) training every day 6xs a week for 90 days. I stopped doing Power90 once I joined with the gym, because I didn't want to overtrain. Down the line some, I may get back into it... but right now, I'll focus with my gym workouts. Good luck with it!

PS check out ebay, because sometimes you can get it WAY cheaper..LOL
BTW, Steve, you don't seem to need a program like this. But if I do get it, I will definitely let you know how it goes.
Like I said before, I'd never use a pre-packaged plan, no matter what level I was at. I really don't believe in them. I'm just interested in hearing what you think of it.
If you think you're in good shape, P90x will definiitely make you reconsider.
I decided to download a few to see how i liked it. It is BRUTAL. But they are true to their word, in 90 days, theres no way you couldn't see a change in yourself.
Its well worth it, but I recommend doing their test first. I'd link you to it but I have forgotten it.
Like Sheryl said above, try Power90 first, see how you do with that?
The trainer is really fabulous too, some of them are annoying, but I actually really enjoyed him.[And Chalene[didnt spell right] from Turbo Jam.
I totally agree with casanova, I downloaded the yoga video to see if I liked it, and after 30 minutes I couldn't do it anymore, and the next day the muscles in the back of my thighs were screaming. 3 days later and they are still tender. I am going to try other things to get in better shape before I try that again. Intense isn't even the word for it, I was sweating so bad my hands were slipping on the yoga mat.
You know, you gotta break it down like this... starting off with P90x when you aren't necessarily strong (mentally as well as physically) you're going to end up hurting yourself period. That's like saying, "Hey I haven't worked out constantly for the past 3 months, but I'm going to enter a triathalon." Start off at a comfortable level, then increase it gradually. Never go "balls out," because you'll end up burning yourself out quickly or God forbid, you're going to hurt yourself badly.
As a treat to myself after surgery, I bought P90x from a seller on eBay and plan on starting it this Monday on New Year's Eve. My recovery has been going amazingly well; I can now use the treadmill/elliptical/circle walk/run much better than before (wow, today is 1 month since I was sliced and diced).
Anyone else doing a new long-term program for 2008?
I am hoping to start commiting myself to doing P90-x long term also in 2008, but I also want to really up my workouts and go ot the gym regularly. I'm applying for a job at the gym downtown also. :]
You know, at the age of 43 I have to be in the best shape ever in my life. It's not the chronological age that's important - you're only as old/young as is your spirit.
Today I did Day 3 of P90x (Arms/shoulders) and have made some rather interesting realizations.
One, this is a great workout if you enjoy following along on the TV. All of the exercises, of course, could be done by yourself at the gym or home....but if you want a structured plan of action, it's rather super. For me, what I like is the way there's 10 minutes of stretching/warming up in the beginner (bad me doesn't take enough time to do that, but I simply have to if I want to continue the workout).
And two, it's a great way to ensure you get weight training and cardio into your day. I now get up at 4am to do my workout, and then after the kids are in school, can go to the gym with my husband for cardio/treadmilling. Of course, that can be applied to generic home-workouts as well.
So far, I'm happy with it - 'twill be interesting to see how I'll manage as the days go by.
My neighbors are going through it right now.
They are both in incredible shape and it is kicking their asses a bit. They are pleased as heck with it but these are 2 seriously in shape people. I want to use it but know I need to wait until I am in good enough shape to actually do all the exercises.
