Rep Power: 0 | | | excercise bike versus regular bike... does excersising on an excersise bike work as good for a 20 minute cardio work out as riding bikes like outside on the street for 20 minutes? |

Rep Power: 0 | | Biking outside I would think would be better, as with a bike, you have to not only pedal, but maintain stability (using more muscles). So I would think it would burn more calories, and tone up muscles. Outside biking you can change gears to make it more difficult, and you can also choose inclines. Hope that helps.

Rep Power: 19 | | | Its hard to say which one will burn more calories... I've known some people who biked seriously as a sport, and they said that training inside is never the same as training outside. The way the stationary bike can change difficulty levels is never the same as hills that nature provides, so people biking outside will have more stamina and preparedness for a race then people training inside. Having said that, once you're at certain level, using higher gear may not be always possible, because biking as fast as you can is sometimes difficult on a busy bike path, so you can't train to the maximum of your ability.
I think calorie burning number depends a lot on terrain and whether you're able to go at maximum of your ability on the street vs. at home. But all in all, I would not think that the difference in calories burned would be that significant if you train at about the same level indoor or outside. I think the final decision should be your preference. Personally, I enjoy biking outside way more because it provides balance challenges, going around obsticals, and variety in terrain and sights. Stationary is pretty boring, but when you can't go outside due to weather, its the next best thing.

Rep Power: 8 | | In the past, I've done both exercise bike and regular bike, and honestly, I found the exercise bike to break more of a sweat and I felt, after the fact, that my body gained more out of it than biking outside. JMO |

Rep Power: 8 | | The arms...? Maybe its the same...cause i didnt realise before, but on an exercise bike u dont move ur arms, so Tamschro has something with the using more muscles...cause u have to keep urself steady. Also with the ordinary bike, wouldnt it sorta be the same as using the HITT theing in running? Riding in the real world would change ur pace and ur efforts so therefore keep ur body on its toes and be better for it? i feel thinkageness.. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
