my gym does exactly the same thing -- it's one of those fine print items in the contract that really has to be read... a few times...

That's scammy to me because there really isn't a good reason for the 30 day thing.

I guess once one gym figured out they can get a little extra money out of people by doing this, they all had to jump on the band wagon.

i work at a curves and i make sure to tell them that before they sign up. it sucks if your people didnt tell you that. we even have people like put their signature next to the part where is say that exact thing. so its not all curves in general, just some of the ones you go to. they are all privately owned, and some owners are a lot worse than others.

They did tell me way at the begining but I of course didn't remember that a year later and I would bet that I'm not the only one who forgot and I would also bet that Curves (and other gyms that have the same policy) take the fact that not everyone will remember to the bank. They sure aren't going to give you a reminder card about it. At any rate, there's absolutely no good reason for a 30 day notice other than for them to try and get as much money out of people as possible. No offense to you personally but it's a scammy policy on Curves behalf if you ask me.

These are the sorts of things that lead to class action settlements.

Question Curves

Ok I have just recently found out that there is a Curves gym only 8 miles from where I live. I am going to go there tomorrow afternoon and check it out but I still want some opinions from those who have or still are with the Curves gym. Any info would help.

thanks!
Jenny

Is that the all girls gym?

Any gym is good as long as it is utilized properly.

Yes as already pointed out any gym would be good so long as you get a programme set up to help you when your in there.

There's been a lot of discussion about Curves in here before. Here are a few threads that house my opinion.

I was a member of curves for 3 months. The machines don't really do much for you...I mean if you are limited to what you can do it's a great place to start, but if you really want to lose weight it's not gonna do much.

if you work super hard the most you can burn is maybe 250 calories...but thats if you work your ass off and maybe go 4 times on the circuit and it depends on what machines....

you're better off using your money on a treadmill that has interchangeable grades or an elliptical machine

Hmm bummer.... i might have been sucked into something there that so wasn't worth the amount of money.

I just liked the thought of having a set workout and no men (im really self consious at the moment)... was going to use it as a starting point in a way until i feel a bit more confident to join a 'proper' gym in a way. lol
