Burning sugar and exercise

This is my first post so Hi!!
I have a question reagarding sucrose and energy. Once a week I allow myself to have a treat. Usually, for the past month, I have been making brownies, eating SOME of the batter (lick the pan..have some choco chips), then having a small brownie. After that I wait about an hour until I get energy then do HIIT on treamil or bike. My question is...am I actually using the sugar I just consumed for energy? Will this prevent weight gain and what r ur thoughts on having a splurge day once a week?

Thanks so much!

IMO (being a T2 Diabetic who knows Sugars / Carbs better then one's worst enemy), I would recommend that if your body's pancreas is "normal" (re: can process sugars / carbs / starchs like majority of normal body folks), then don't worry about when one eats a small amount of sweets. The body will auto-adjust and compensate. And, life moves forward. Especially since you only use "cheat treats" (sort of speaking) as a reward and NOT an every day routine event.

If you want to "burn off" sugar intake as efficiently as possible (like many T2 Diabetics), may I suggest:
- Eat small amount of sugar / carbs - like licking the brownie pan (like I did in my younger days). Yum - yum.
- Wait 10-15 minutes - for one's stomach / digestive system to start working.
- Do intense exercise for 30 minutes. If not used to exercise (like 4 mile jogs), then do moderate exercise for 45 minutes. Like "speed walk" around 2 city blocks.
- Perform 10-15 minutes of "cool down" stretches and continue your normal day.

Remember that sugar (like brownies) are high GI (re: fast release fuel) foods. Thus, it's best to exercise soon after eating them. As a general statement, Whole Wheat foods or veggies is on the lower GI scale (slower release energy foods). Thus, if one eats these specific foods, they can wait 1 hour before exercising. And, do "slower" movement exercises - like normal paced walk around the block or normal paced peddle bike ride. For high GI release foods, use "exercise blasting" to burn away their immediate fuel release.

Again, if your body has normal BG (Blood Glucose) levels after eating the odd sweets and your body already has a good "health fit / health stance", then simply have the odd sweet treats and continue to apply your normal daily routine. One of those "if it ain't broke - don't try to fix it" things in life...

Hope this helps...
