Yay summer is almost here!
I have been thinking about taking some summer pe classes at the JC I go to.
what do you think? Cardio kickboxing from 9:30 - 11 Yoga from 11-12:30
MTWTH
I really wanted to take a weight lifting class too! but its alredy kind of time consuming.
I need to lose alot of body fat, im about at 36% body fat. Any one know how quickly one would be able to (keeping the muscle) drop a percentage?
(sorry for bad spelling)
weights are better than yoga for fatloss. Also, to lose fat, you've got to watch your diet. Eat only natural products, like meat veggies, etc and nothing that comes ina box, like chocolate, a pizza or a TV dinner.
When ever i start seeing results i think that i might sabitogue(sp?) it. I dont know how to explane it or get over it.
This is explained by the concept of self-image, coined by Dr. Maxwell Maltz in his book Psycho Cybernetics.
The word cybernetics comes from the Greek word for steering. What the books exlpains is that the mind has a build-in system to steer your progress towards the self-image you hold of yourself. If you perceive yourself as unfit, you will tend to sabotage yourself once you steer a bit from being unfit.
Exercise is important, but if your nutrition is not there you are just going to be shooting yourself in the foot.
Working out 5 days a week and resting twice is good. How about doing cardio kickboxing 4 days a week, weight training 3 days, and doing yoga 1-2 times? That would give you a nice variety. And maybe you oculd go a for a long walk or job one day as well.
Good job getting started. If you don't see results from what you are doing you should think about trying different types of exercise until you find what will work for you.
Well, if you are looking to drop that much weight you are going to want to do 4 things:
1) Eat less.
Try to figure out approx how many calories your burn each day and eat 300-500 calories less than that. Or, if you despise counting, try to eat veggies, fruit, whole grains and lean meat while cutting down on fats and sweets. Eat only when you are hungry and stopping when you are satisified. Don't keep eating when you are not hungry or full.
2) Do cardio
get your HR up for at least a half an hour 3 times a week. Walking is really low impact, and cheap. Cardiokickboxing sounds fun! Cardio is the cornerstone for fat loss.
3) Lift
If you've never lifted before invest in a personal trainer or take a class. When you restict calories to drop fat your body catabolizes some muscle too -- to keep the muscle you need resistance training while you are losing weight and after you are done losing all the fat you want to lose. 2-3 times per week is good.
4) Make sure you don't injure yourself, and stay motivated! Yoga is great for these two things as long as you don't try to push yourself into poses you can't do. Go slow, don't let the teacher bully you into doing stuff that hurts!
