unwanted muscular thighs

i just wanted to know why my huge thighs just wont go away. i have a excersize bike on which i do 13 miles a day on level 7 of 8, this takes about 50 minutes, but all that happens is they just get more muscular so i still look quite fat in my jeans or trousers.

am i using the wrong kind of excersize? i cant leave house because im usually swamped with work but if there are any other excersize equipment that could help me i will buy it.

thanks guys

zed.

Hard to know without more information on your diet and overall exercise, but yeah, if all you do is ride the bike on a high resistance, then you're going to build leg muscles over anything else.

You have to work your whole body to build balance - to make sure that your top half is as developed as your bottom half. You can't just work one set of muscles and expect the rest of your body to fall into line.

Balance is important. Diet (in the sense of what you eat, not in the sense of "go on a") is also important.

Give us more information and we can probably make some suggestions.

i think you are right about the diet part i do tend to indulge sometimes but overall my stomach is quite thin, but my thighs are huge and yes they do make me look quite unbalanced. i weigh 12.9 stones and 5'11 tall.

i was thinking of lowering the weight on the bike to about 3 since level 7 is really quite intense and increasing the reps, will that help?.

thank you.

I don't think lowering resistance on the bike will help. As long as you're riding a bike, you're going to be working your leg muscles.

Doing more well rounded exercise is the only thing that's going to balance things out ... unless of course you're planning on losing all your muscle mass equally, which I don't think is the best way to go.

i've worked my way through all the levels,, its taken me about a month each to get through them, level 5 & 6 took about 3 months and now im on 7. i've just tried level 3 and i dont feel any resistance what so ever.

i think your're right about the dietry changes but every time i eat i feel the need to work it off.

Read the sticky posts on nutrition and exercise. Again, if you focus on one set of muscles, then that's all that's going to develop. Until you work your ENTIRE BODY, you're not going to see a difference.

Muscle or fat? I'd be interested in seeing pictures if you don't mind.

its definatly muscle maybe 80-20 but everytime i tense my thigh it seriously bulges out. my calf muscles are relatively thin so my legs just dont look right. if you can imagine a thin upper body with big thighs and then thin calfs you can imagine what i look like.

thanks.

Just because you tense your leg and it bulges doesn't mean what you're seeing is muscle. You could have a layer of fat over the muscle and what you're seeing when you tense up is the fat being pushed out by the tensed muscle.

Again ... diet, nutrition, and balance.
