Very VERY Upset. Advice?

Well, I would really be grateful for some input. I have been working very hard on my weight loss and have made a good progress. That is until today. I weigh myslef every Thursday to keep track of my weight. Imagine my shock when I saw + 3lb. weight gain !!! I exercise every day - 3.5 miles/hour on treadmill and do not eat after 7 p.m., drink 92-98oz. of water per day and my diet is very solid. How could it be that I have gained!? Just to make sure I cover everything: I do not do weight training and it is not "that time of the month" . I am completely lost as to WHY, why!? where do this 3lb. come from? It is so upsetting to me, to the point that I am ready to give up. I might as well be eating and gaining weight... I am working so damn hard. I will tell you - I didn't cry in long time, but today I did.
The funny thing is - I measured myslef today and it turns out I lost in my waist line and hips and chest. What do I not get? How is it possible to gain weight and loose in measurements? Please, help understanding what am I doing wrong..

3 pounds of muscle in one week? No way.

Personally I would recommend weighing on a daily basis and averaging your results. I've lost 5 pounds worth of sweat in 1.5 hours before. I can take a good dump and lose 3 pounds. Water and waste weight is huge. Also wear the exact same clothes, if anything at all. Anyway, your weight is going to fluctuate, no way around it. Just try to minimize these fluctuations when its weigh-in time. I refuse to weigh myself unless I can weigh first thing in the morning, not wearing anything, after I went to the toilet. There's too high of a chance for slightly inaccurate readings otherwise.

measurements are amuch more accurate assessment as to how you're really doing - and you've lost there - so your hard work is paying off... Please don't let the number on the scale make you cry..

my scale is being a big old meanie this week - and has given me a 3 lb gain.. for no good reason... I really wish I had an answer on that...

But congratulate your self that those measurements are smaller way to go

I understand your frustration... and it could be a huge number of factors - weighing yourself tomorrow could show something completely different. I try to weigh at the same time every week as well - and to be honest, even trying to control the factors like that doesn't always give me totally accurate results. It could have been something you ate yesterday... you could have had more salt and retained more water... it could be a combination of a million factors...

The good news is that you have lost INCHES!!! congratulations!!! I think that sometimes we are so concerned about the pounds or kg or stones - that we forget to see the changes our bodily is actually making! don't give up - you are seeing results... they just aren't on the scale today.

Hey Coco

You are where I was at yesterday poor love. It is so discouraging isnt it.

You will get there, this is a slight detour is all. Start weighing in the nude, after toilet first thing in morning. Too many variations otherwise.

Keep it up sweet

Oh, yes, I did consider this possibility mainly because I exercise on incline on my treadmill which can promote muscle gain over few month, but I always thought that muscle weight gain is very slow. I am sorry, I didn' understand your last question. Thank you so very much for your support and encouragement, it really means so much to me!

I, too, weigh myself every Thursday morning before breakfast or water intake, after using bathroom and without any clothes on. I feel this way my weight is more accurate. I have to admit that lately I have been having problems, pardon me please, with going to the bathroom (I guess, not enough fiberin my diet). Thank you so very muc for your advice.

Mal, I am so happy to see you here! You are always so positive! Of course, you are absolutely right: measurements are more important. I guess, I just got a bit emotional: I had a very bad week and looked forward to loosing another couple of lbs. I see that you have made great proggress yourself since that fantastic Halloween Challenge. Congratulations!!!

Jodi, I hope you are doing OK . Here is what I think: 1 gallon of water weighs 8lb. I am drinking close to 1 gallon of water per day so it is very possible my body retains water. In any event, yes, it is desouraging, but quiting is not an option, right? Thank you so very much for your kind words.

You are so right! My hubby is on the diet too. His diet is far more forgiving and he doesn't exercise as much as I do. Guess who is loosing weight faster? - yep!My hubby.

What an interesting thread!!

I weigh myself every Monday, first thing in the morning, naked, after using the bathroom.

Now that I think about it, most of my 'cheating' happens on the weekends so perhaps Monday isn't the greatest day to weigh. But I guess as long as I do it consistently on Monday. . no difference.

To the original poster, heck, inches are what I want to lose!!! If I could fit into my old jeans and gain 3 lbs I probably wouldn't be too upset!

Keep up the good work!!

Your body actually retains LESS water when you drink more. That's not to say that you didn't retain a little water, but even if you did it's not because you're drinking alot of it.
