I'm not sure if 185lbs is significant but that's what I'm down so far- and the first 100 or so came from walking... (and calorie expenditure and some weight training) but my sole form of cardio was then and is now walking...
10K a day is a low end walk these days but that's where i started...
Where did this 10,000 steps per day come from? Post #17 (permalink)
I'm a pretty lazy person, though I do walk to and from work every day (which is about 1.5 miles round trip) I've been using a pedometer daily, and finding I'm averaging about 5 -6000 steps a day. I am determined to get that up to 10,000 steps a day... I think it is a pretty reasonable amount of steps...
Going to the grocery store alone, is good for a minimum of 1000 steps.

yup and am still lazy but now 5 - 6 miles a day is my average though i've been slacking since I have been leaving work too late to walk home from the office

Okay, true, I haven't done that yet, but hey, it's not really difficult - just do 50 every half hour or so. I generally forget about them after I've hit 300 or so. Some day I'll focus more....
Enjoy,
Barbara

Walking is central to my weight loss project and I am very pleased with the results. I certainly cover more than 10,000 steps every day and my health has improved dramatically.
At my start weight - walking was one of comparitively few forms of exercise that were available to me. I certainly could not walk quickly.

Red, I'm LMAO! That's what I want to know, too! I mean which corporate paid doctor pulled this number out his ass?! Is 10,000 steps really feesable in your every day life? Considering you drive to and from work, park in the office garage, probably don't go very far for lunch, aren't going to walk up 20 flights of stairs to get to your office, sit at a desk all day so you can get your work done...
I mean come on! Who the hell is moving that much? I know I'm not, not even on a day when I have a lot of stuff to do! This is soooooooooooo bogus!
